Do Sportswomen Get Enough Support In The Media?

Sportswomen and the Media and How the WPS might change things!

Sports of all kinds have enjoyed public support all over the world. Among them, some sports have enjoyed more support and adulation as compared to other sports.

For instance Base Ball, cricket, tennis, soccer, foot ball, have ruled supreme for a long time.

Men and women both have shown keen interest in sports since centuries, but somehow men’s sports have garnered more public support and mass hysteria as compared to women in sports.

There have been some great women in sports over the years, like Nadia Comaneci, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Williams sisters, and others. What’s more, we now even have female boxers like Laila Ali.

Women’s Professional Soccer is making all attempts to gain popularity on the net with its social networking portals and micro level bloggers. WPS’s new seven team league is kick starting on the following Sunday at Carson.

WPS is aiming at making this sport more popular among public by interacting with their fans and public in general.

Their social network has succeeded in cornering 3100 fans who have signed up to chat, post pictures and do everything related to the sport.

A move to appoint 10,000 fans to WPS Facebook has, to the surprise of the organizers themselves, drawn 9,400 participants as early as by Monday afternoon itself, which augurs very well for the sport.

The bench sitters of the teams will use their spare time to blog and keep the fans interested. The main intention of WPS presently is aiming at strengthening the sport, and sustainability to be reviewed between next 5 to 10 years. The game should be amply supported by best women in sport.

The inaugural session is to be held on the following Sunday at Carson, at 2.30 p.m. to be covered by Fox Soccer Channel.

The final will be played sometime in August later, as the matches will be held only on Sundays. A lot of foreign players too have been representing various teams.

The organizers are expecting a spectator-strength of around 4,000-6,000 each game.

Economic conditions do pose a challenge, but the matches being quite affordable at a ticket price of $10 each, the popularity of the matches should be in no doubt.

Here is hoping that best women in sport pray and blog for the success of their ilk.
